Welcome To Atlin BC

For those of us fortunate enough to call Atlin home it is just a great place to live. Situated in the far northwestern part of British Columbia on the shores of Atlin Lake which is the province's largest natural lake, it is truly a hidden jewel; a quiet, isolated, and peaceful community worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the outside.

The town has four to five hundred residents who call Atlin home year round. In the summer Atlin's population increases. Miners return to the creeks, summer houses are opened up, and areas accessible only in the summer months call.

At the turn of the century when gold was discovered the town of Atlin was born. Buildings from that era still exist and are scattered throughout town. Gold has played an important part in the recent (last hundred years) history of the area. Gold mining still continues today however, the number of miners working the creeks today is a far cry from the 10,000 during the gold rush heyday.

Today Atlin is home to robust artist community including, musicians, painters, photographers, and other artisans. Others move here to retire as the area is known for it's clean water, fresh air and huge back country to explore.

A nice two to three hour drive from Whitehorse depending on the season, Atlin is easily accessible. Tourism flourishes and visitors from all over the world come to Atlin, taking in the history, culture, and and unmatched beauty of Atlin and the surrounding area.

Need to escape from work or the hustle and bustle of business life? This is a good place for busy people to get away from it all as your office will never call you or send you a text because there is no cell phone service here.

During the summer months, Atlin will see a large influx of visitors in campers and trailers with boats, kayaks and canoes all wanting to explore the many lakes and of course the world famous Llewellyn Glacier which can be reached by water or air.

One of Atlin's greatest draws is the immensely popular Atlin Arts and Music Festival held in July of each year. Another popular event is the Tarahne Tea, a period event held aboard the Tarahne. Both of these events sell out quickly, so if you wish to attend make sure you plan early.

For those who are thinking about moving to Atlin either part time or full time, I have some information posted on this page that might be of somewhat helpful and informative.
